I always love going to conferences as it provides me with opportunities to connect with colleagues whom I may not get to speak to daily. It also gives me a change to hear some amazing speakers. I had never been to an uLearn conference in all of my 23 years with the school district, so I decided that this was the year that I was going to rewrite my story and try it out.
Some of my top takeaways included:
Dean Shareski’s and Dr Katy Fodchuk’s session on Burn Out reminded us that burn out is a systemic issue in the teaching field
Leading in a Digital Age- Professional Learning to Support Assessment Practices for In-Service and Preservice Teachers- A Case Discussion a session by Dr Nadia Delanoy, Dr Barb Brown and Jodie Walz i an Educational Technology Consultant with the Calgary Catholic School District.
We discussed the need to allow preservice and in-service teachers to integrate technology into their practice by providing them with opportunities to collaborate and and play with new applications.

NOMAD is a 60-minute multi media/speaking and singing presentation, through songs, stories, film, photos and music videos. NOMAD will take you on the journey of the Canadian Inuit shedding light on some of the psychological and cultural impacts of rapid change in the North. NOMAD also gives a glimpse of the resilience and determination of a people who have maintained a quiet dignity despite near annihilation by disease and rapid change; a glimpse of the strengths of the traditional culture.
While NOMAD helps create better understanding of the effects of colonization and generational trauma caused by the Canadian Governments Residential Schools/assimilation policy on Inuit, views also gain an understanding that we as Indigenous (artists) work with, from and for our own respective healing and (re) learning
